Ask the Outlaw

Got a tech question? Pull up a chair.

Maybe you’ve got an old computer collecting dust. Maybe you’re tired of paying subscriptions for things you used to own. Maybe you’ve heard about Linux, self-hosting, or running your own server, but you don’t know where to start. Or maybe you’ve spent three hours trying to make something work, and you’re about ready to introduce your computer to a large hammer. I’ve been there.

Welcome to Ask the Outlaw, where we talk about real-world technology, practical solutions, and the occasional adventure in figuring things out the hard way. I’m not here to sell you a subscription, convince you that you need an expensive new computer, or tell you that every problem requires an enterprise solution. I’m here to help you find something that works. No question is too simple. You don’t need to know what Docker is, understand Linux commands, or have a rack full of blinking servers.Just tell me what you’re trying to accomplish.

Got something you’d like the Outlaw to tackle?

Email: outlaw@opensourceoutlaw.com

Tell me what you’re working with, what you’re trying to do, and where you’re getting stuck. I can’t promise I’ll have every answer, but I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction. And sometimes the answer might be that the software or service you’re already using is perfectly fine. That’s okay, too.

Your Question Might Help Someone Else

From time to time, I’ll take questions that could help other readers and turn them into articles right here on Open Source Outlaw. I’ll remove identifying details unless you’ve given me permission to share them. And please, don’t send passwords, account credentials, or other sensitive personal information. Because chances are, if you’re struggling with something, somebody else is struggling with it too.

One Last Thing…

Around here, we believe technology ought to work for YOU, not the other way around. Sometimes the answer is Linux. Sometimes it’s open-source software. Sometimes it’s keeping the computer you already own. And sometimes the answer is telling Steve to put down his clipboard and let us try something different.
